Fat for thought!

Did you know that your white-hot, energy-devouring brain is made of nearly 60% fat by total weight?

Dr. Jean-Claude Nerette says that saturated, as well as unsaturated fats are essential since conception for brain cells structural integrity, balance, and fluidity.

Your neurons and protective sheaths are especially benefited from long-chain fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA) making about 50% of neuron cell membrane and 70% of myelin sheath. This is the reason why infant milk is fortified with DHA and AA in the absence of breast feeding (which contains it naturally).

Today, we see a remarkable deficiency of these essential elements starting with the weaning of breastfeeding and bottle milk, creating a nutritional gap for the young growing brain. This problem is exacerbated by our western diet, notoriously deficient of good healthy fats such as organic eggs, meat, fatty fish, avocados, nuts, and organ meats.

In paleolithic times, human diets contained equal amounts of omega-6 and omega-3, a 1:1 ratio. Today’s fear of saturated fats and cholesterol, as well as the use of so called heart-healthy vegetable oils such as canola, safflower, sunflower (seed oils) have replaced the healthy good omega oils, such as olive oil, fatty fish oil, full-fat dairy products, etc. to a 17:1 ratio!

Another important substance for your brain is the famously and demonized cholesterol, which fortunately your body can produce naturally. Cholesterol is also essential because it is the building material for neurological new cells, structure and repair, as well as for new synapses between neurons which is crucial for learning, memory and many other brain functions.

Based on his extensive experience, Dr. Nerette is totally convinced that you need to feed your brain a more primitive, rich omega, DHA and AA natural organic diet, to prevent the slur of modern brain diseases proliferating in children, as well as old adults.
